MD Buyline has provided healthcare facilities with business intelligence for over 25 years. Unlimited web access to critical decision data empowers our members to control capital costs and better manage the operational impact of technology.
Larry and Sharon Malcolmson founded MD Buyline in 1983 along with a group of leading hospital-based physicians and surgeons. They shared a common concern that medical technology was quickly outpacing the ability of hospital management to make informed decisions on technology capabilities, costs, and maintenance quality.
Larry’s early career as a medical electronics executive had convinced him that the vendors in the medical industry were largely ethical, but they had the majority of the technology information and their customers had little. Sharon began her career working with medical and computer technology firms, crafting strategies and messages that simplified complex technical explanations for non-technical buyers. Together, with their physician partners, who offered firsthand experience with the technologies and issues facing hospital users, they began interviewing vendors and users of medical technology and writing custom reports for subscribing members.
By 1989, MD Buyline was delivered to members via proprietary software and technologies, and vendors and prices began to be archived for comparison. The internet revolution enabled MD Buyline to deliver data via dial-up and ultimately Web-based services. The company later partnered with McGraw-Hill and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) to expand services to include healthcare IT.
In 2008, the company partnered with Attainia, an application service provider, to integrate its robust content in an online catalog and budget tool. This enables customers to use the product and price data, peer rankings, and specifications in an organized annual process with speed and privacy.
Over 25 years later, many of MD Buyline’s founding member hospitals remain customers today. Key stakeholders in the hospital are chief financial officers, clinical managers, and supply chain management. The company serves hospitals, outpatient clinics, architects, facility planners, large physician groups, investment bankers in the technology sector, and large hospital affinity groups.
MD Buyline, Inc. is based in Dallas, TX. It is privately held.
